Managing AWS Marketplace Private Offers: Amendments, Rebuys, and Listing Migrations

Last updated: October 9, 2025

AWS Marketplace private offers have different modification capabilities depending on their current state. Understanding these states and available actions is crucial for managing your marketplace transactions effectively.

Published Offers (Before Customer Acceptance)

Once a private offer is published on AWS Marketplace, it cannot be amended, modified, or changed directly. This applies to all changes, including:

  • Adjusting seat counts

  • Modifying pricing or terms

  • Changing scope or specifications

To make changes to a published offer:

  1. Withdraw the current offer (only possible before customer acceptance)

  2. Create a new offer with the correct specifications

  3. Submit the new offer for customer review

Accepted Offers (Post-Acceptance Modifications)

Once a customer accepts a private offer, direct modifications are no longer possible. Instead, use Agreement-Based Offers (ABOs) to amend or extend existing contracts.

Creating ABOs for Pricing Adjustments

When you need to adjust pricing for an existing accepted offer:

  1. Identify the accepted private offer requiring modification

  2. Create an Agreement-Based Offer through the AWS Marketplace Management Portal

  3. Set contract value to $0 when only adjusting usage dimension pricing

  4. Update only the specific usage dimensions that require price changes

  5. Submit the ABO for customer acceptance

Important: When creating ABOs for pricing changes only, keep the contract value at $0 to prevent duplicate billing for customers who have already been invoiced.

Listing Migration with Active Private Offers

AWS does not support migrating existing private offers between listings. This creates specific considerations for sellers planning listing changes:

How Existing Offers Are Handled

  • Existing private offers remain valid on the old listing until expiration

  • Customers cannot renew existing offers on the old listing after migration

  • The old listing can be deactivated while existing offers continue running

  • All contractual obligations are honored until completion

Migration Process

  1. Create your new marketplace listing

  2. Proactively communicate migration timeline to existing customers

  3. Negotiate and create new private offers on the new listing before existing offers expire

  4. Deactivate the old listing while maintaining existing contract obligations

  5. Ensure smooth customer transition from old offers to new offers

Key Principles for Private Offer Management

Remember these fundamental rules when managing your AWS Marketplace private offers:

  • Before acceptance: Withdraw and recreate offers for any changes

  • After acceptance: Use Agreement-Based Offers for modifications

  • Listing changes: Existing offers cannot be transferred between listings

  • Billing considerations: Set ABO contract values appropriately to avoid duplicate charges

Understanding these workflows will help you manage your AWS Marketplace private offers effectively throughout their entire lifecycle.
