How to create a sub-account in AWS MP
Last updated: February 9, 2026
Step-by-step in AWS Organizations console
Sign in to the AWS Management Console with your root/management account.
Open AWS Organizations (you can search “Organizations” in the console search bar).
If you don’t already have an organization, choose Create organization and follow the prompt.
In AWS Organizations, go to the AWS accounts page and choose Add an AWS account.
On the next screen, keep Create an AWS account selected.
Enter:
AWS account name: Friendly name for this “sub account”. (companyname_marketplace)
Email address of the account’s owner: A unique email not used by any other AWS account.
(Optional) Specify the IAM role name; if you skip this, AWS creates
OrganizationAccountAccessRoleso the management account can assume admin access into the new member account.Submit the form. AWS creates the new member account and links it under your organization’s root by default; you can later move it into an OU if needed.
At creation time AWS copies primary contact and Marketplace “vendor” information (in supported Regions) from the management account to this new member account, which is why it behaves like a sub account from a Marketplace perspective.
